Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler ) (born 8 May 1975), is a Spanish recording artist and record producer. He is widely regarded as the King of Latin Pop. Iglesias started his career in the mid-1990s on an American Spanish Language record label Fonovisa under the name Enrique Martinez, before switching to the stage name Enrique Iglesias, and turning into one of the biggest stars in Latin America and the Hispanic Market in the United States. By the turn of the millennium, he had made a successful crossover into the mainstream market and signed a multi-album deal with Universal Music Group for US $68,000,000 with Universal Music Latino to release his Spanish albums and Interscope to release English albums. In 2010, he parted with Interscope and signed with another Universal Music Group label Republic Records to release bilingual albums. In 2015, Enrique parted ways with Universal music group after a decade. He signed for Sony Music and it has been reported that it is one of the biggest contracts offered to any artist in recent years in terms of advances and royalties. His upcoming albums will be by Sony Music Latin in Spanish and RCA in English.
Iglesias has sold over 137 million records worldwide, making him one of the best selling Spanish artists ever. Iglesias has scored over 150 number-one hits across all of the Billboard charts and he has had five Billboard Hot 100 top five singles, including two number-ones, and holds the record for producing 26 number-one Spanish-language singles on the Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks. He also holds the record for most number-one hits and the longest running number-one hit on that chart. Iglesias also has 13 number-ones on Billboard's Dance charts, more than any other male artist. Enrique Iglesias is the eponymous debut studio album recorded by Spanishsinger-songwriterEnrique Iglesias, it was released by Fonovisa on 21 November 1995 (see 1995 in music). The album was a success and topped the Latin charts. It also won the Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album at the 39th Annual Grammy Awards on 26 February 1997. The album received a Gold certification in Portugal after a weeks of sales, and has sold more than 6 million copies worldwide.[2] In the United States it was certified Platinum on 18 November 1996, becoming one of the best selling latin albums of all times in that country. All singles of the album hit the number-one spot in the BillboardHot Latin Tracks chart: 'Si Tú Te Vas', 'Por Amarte', 'No Llores Por Mí' and 'Trapecista' (the most for any Latin album), tying Selena and beating Jon Secada with four chart toppers.
Commercial performance[edit]
The album debuted in the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart at number 38 in the week of 23 December 1995,[3] climbing to the Top Ten five weeks later.[4] The album dethroned Selena's Dreaming of You in the week of 25 May 1996 (after being in the chart for 28 weeks),[5] spending ten consecutive weeks at pole position and an extra week after being kept off from the top spot by the compilation albumMacarena Mix. The album spent 73 weeks inside the Top Ten (with at least two weeks in every position) and 100 weeks in the chart.
